A beautiful holiday gathering begins long before serving the first dish — it starts with the Christmas table settings. What has the power to bring an entire celebration to the next level? Make guests feel welcomed, seen, and part of something special the moment they walk in? An elegant Christmas tablescape is the key to achieving this. A thoughtful tablescape doesn’t need to be complicated; it simply needs intention, warmth, and a touch of style.

Today, I’m sharing my favourite ways to create an elegant, modern Christmas tablescape that feels festive, elevated, and effortless.

Start with a Statement Centerpiece

Your centerpiece is so important because it sets the tone for your entire holiday table — it’s the “top layer” that creates visual interest and immediately draws the eye. For an elegant Christmas table setting, I love working with natural elements such as greenery, berries, pinecones, and soft candlelight.

A fresh pine or eucalyptus garland running down the center of your table instantly brings in texture, fragrance, and festive charm. Tuck in a few pinecones, delicate ornaments, sprigs of berries, or even dried citrus slices for a subtle pop of color.

But remember: elegant tablescapes breathe. Avoid stuffing the centerpiece. Let simplicity do the talking.

Finish with taper candles in brass or glass holders. Candlelight is one of the easiest ways to make your Christmas dinner table feel intimate, elevated, and warm.

Choose a Color Palette That Reflects Your Style

Personally, I find the traditional red and green color paletter to be boring and jsut a little too much for my eyes. I opt for a cohesive color palette as the foundation for a polished Christmas tablescape. I suggest you choose colors that feel authentic to your home and your holiday mood.

Here are two great approaches:

Classic & Timeless

Deep greens, cranberries, gold, natural woods

Pairs beautifully with greenery and traditional ornaments.

Modern & Serene (my favorite this year)

Soft blues, whites, champagne metallics, and touches of gold

Creates a calm, wintery, sophisticated feel while still festive and transitions well into the New Year festivities. Just change a napkin or centerpiece and you are New Year ready.

Try to stick to 2–3 primary colors to maintain harmony and elegance.

Layering is the secret to making your Christmas table setting feel intentional and beautifully styled.

Here’s the order I follow (the same method I teach in my Elevated Living course):

Base Layer – Tablecloth, Runner, or Placemats

Choose something that complements your color palette.

A gossamer or lace-inspired tablecloth adds nostalgia and elegance — this year, mine reminded me of my grandmother’s delicate linens.

Middle Layer – Chargers, Plates, Bowls, Napkins

Chargers elevate the entire place setting.

Gold or silver chargers pair beautifully with white dinnerware for a clean and timeless look. If your palette leans cool, silver works best; if warm, go for gold.

Crisp white napkins or soft-toned linens keep the look refined.

Top Layer – Accents & Finishing Touches

This is where your Christmas tablescape gains personality — without adding clutter.

Keep your accents simple and intentional:

• Napkin rings or sprigs of greenery for a natural touch
• Handwritten place cards to make each guest feel welcomed
• Low florals or small arrangements that keep conversation flowing
• A seasonal element like cedar, dried orange slices, or a single ornament at each setting

Small details make a table feel curated and warm.

• A soft seasonal playlist
