I just found a way to decorate my French-inspired DIY elegant fall fireplace mantle for fall without drilling holes or using hot glue to secure my creation. My mantel is made from plaster with a faux finish, and because of the delicate nature of my diamond plaster walls, typical command hooks and nails weren’t an option. After some trial and error, I found a simple yet effective way to create an elevated fall floral arrangement, and I’m excited to share this easy method with you.
Materials I Used:
- 64 floral stems in muted fall colors like creams, soft oranges, and greens. I also incorporated poppies to add a whimsical touch and soften the look. I went a little crazy in the store!
- Green floral foam block (2″ H x 11.9″ W x 35.8″ D) cut in half to fit the mantel.
- Double-sided foam tape to keep the foam block securely in place.
Steps to Achieve This Fall Mantel Look:
- Prepare Your Mantel:
Since my mantel is 7.5 feet long and 9 inches wide, I cut my floral foam block in half, which allowed me to place two pieces across the mantle. This provided a sturdy foundation for my florals without the need for nails or wires. The floral stems did not move unless I moved them. - Secure the Foam:
To ensure the foam block stays in place, I used double-sided foam tape underneath each piece. This tape held the foam securely to the plaster surface without damaging it. - Arrange the Florals:
Here’s where the magic happens. I simply laid most of the floral stems across the foam block, giving the display a light and airy feel. About 15% of the stems were inserted directly into the foam to anchor the arrangement. It’s important to note that I didn’t use any hot glue or wiring; the foam did all the work. In just 30 minutes, I had a stunning, elevated fall centerpiece ready to go. - Choose a Muted Palette:
This year, I opted for a more muted color scheme, using creams, soft oranges, and subtle greens. The poppies added a whimsical element, softening the overall appearance and making the arrangement feel more dynamic and elevate
